Recovery & reset

Luma is built so there is always a way back — no account to unlock, no support ticket to wait on. Three tools, from gentlest to most thorough.

Factory reset

The whole ritual happens on the device, deliberately physical:

1. Hold the button down while plugging the device in (or while it restarts).
2. Keep holding through a five-second countdown — a ring sweep that shifts from yellow to red. Let go at any point to cancel; nothing happens until the countdown completes.
3. The ring flashes red three times, the reset runs, and the device restarts as brand new, broadcasting for setup again.

Erased: all reminders, names, the PIN, the pairing key, satellite registrations, custom gradients, mode settings, timezone, and the stored Wi-Fi network. That completeness is the point — a factory-reset Luma is safe to sell or gift; nothing about you stays on it.

Re-pairing a satellite that lost its Main

A satellite that hasn’t heard from its Main in five minutes starts a slow blue pulse — distinct from the amber of setup and the red of errors. That state comes with two exits:

• From its web page: the satellite shows a banner explaining the situation with a hold-to-confirm re-pair button. It forgets its pairing and returns to setup, ready to join a new (or repaired) Main.
• From the device:hold the button for eight seconds — for when the whole network changed and the web page isn’t reachable either.

If the Main is merely unplugged, just plug it back in — satellites reconnect on their own; re-pairing is only for when the Main is genuinely gone (factory-reset, moved out, or replaced).

USB recovery — the deepest tool

If a device won’t boot at all — a failed flash, a corrupted install, tinkering gone wrong — the hardware’s built-in loader can’t be broken by software, so a desktop browser can always restore it:

1. Connect the device over USB with a data cable, then put it in download mode: hold BOOT, tap RESET, release BOOT.
2. Open the USB installer in Chrome or Edge and click Install firmware — it fetches the latest release and writes a complete, clean image.
3. Allow the full erase when asked. When it finishes, the device boots into first-time setup.

The installer page also has a serial console for reading the device’s own diagnostics over USB — handy if you’re curious what it’s thinking.

Softer resets, for completeness

• App → Reset Connection forgets the pairing on the phone only — the device is untouched, and you can reconnect any time.
• App → Restart Device is a plain reboot — settings intact.
