Troubleshooting
Organised by symptom. Most of these resolve in under a minute; each entry says what’s actually happening so you know why the fix works.
“The app can’t find my Luma”
- Same Wi-Fi? The phone must be on your home network — not cellular, not a guest network that walls devices off from each other.
- Local Network permission?iOS gates discovery behind a one-time prompt. The app notices when it’s blocked and offers to open Settings.
- Give it sixty seconds. After any network blip the device re-announces itself on reconnect and once a minute after — it usually reappears on its own.
- Go direct.Type the device’s address or IP into the app’s manual field or any browser — see Finding your Luma.
“A reminder didn’t fire”
- Vacation mode on? It silences all schedules and hydration until it ends — check the dashboard.
- Reminder switched off? A Once reminder turns itself off after firing; it stays in the list disabled. Bi-weekly reminders skip alternate weeks by design.
- Wrong target? A reminder aimed at Kitchenwon’t light the Main. Check its target device.
- Clock adrift? The device needs Wi-Fi to keep time. After a long power-off away from network, give it a minute online; its page shows the time it believes.
- Auto-dismissed? Unattended reminders clear themselves after 4, 8, or 12 hours. If you were out all day, the glow may simply have finished its shift.
“A satellite shows offline”
- The badge flips after about 45 seconds of silence or a few failed deliveries in a row — a single missed check-in won’t do it. Give it a minute before digging.
- Power-cycle the satellite; it rejoins and re-registers by itself.
- Remember the honest limitation: reminders that fired while it was offline are not replayed when it returns — see Satellites.
“A satellite is pulsing blue”
That’s the lost Mainsignal: it hasn’t reached its Main in over five minutes. If the Main is just unplugged, power it back on and the pulse clears itself. If the Main is gone for good, re-pair the satellite.
“I changed my Wi-Fi / moved house”
No reset needed. App → Settings → Change Wi-Fi Network points the device at the new network; if the join fails, it falls back to the old one rather than stranding itself. If the old network is already gone, the device can’t reach anything at boot — it reopens Bluetooth pairing and the setup network automatically, and your reminders survive the move (only re-run network setup, not the whole device).
“The web page asks for a PIN nobody remembers”
There is no recovery question — see PIN & sharing for why. Factory reset and set up fresh.
“It’s completely dead”
- Try another USB-C cable and power source first — the boring answer is the common one.
- If it powers but never comes up, the USB installerrestores a clean system in a couple of minutes — the hardware’s recovery loader can’t be corrupted by software.
What the light is telling you
- Amber sweep — in setup / waiting to be paired.
- White comet — joining Wi-Fi.
- Green pulse — setup just completed.
- Slow blue pulse — satellite lost its Main.
- Cyan flash, five seconds— answering “Identify” from the app.
- Yellow→red sweep while holding the button — factory-reset countdown; release to cancel.
